A Pale Simulacrum

I was browsing the archives of the inestimable Cheri Lucas Rowlands, and paused on this post of “found poetry” — poems made of unedited phrases from her unpublished draft posts. I’ve had poetry on the brain and thought I’d give it a whirl to see what could be learned, using her same rules.

I think the main finding is “my unpublished drafts do not contain thoughts of the same quality as those of Cheri Lucas Rowlands.” This is what happens when your drafts are mainly outlines of posts you wrote on your phone at 2AM while falling asleep because you didn’t want to forget those precious gems overnight.

Presenting: Four Found (or Lost) Poems

Walking in straight lines on the sidewalk

is fairly near the bottom of the Feminist Pyramid of Woes,

last time I checked with the Cabal of Sisters.

Black holes are fucking terrifying.

Maybe I’m underestimating their theological depths.

But let us be frank:

No one likes clowns.

Other Really Sweaty Woman, you made me sad;

do I want to take your stripper pole away?

Yes, I am strident and have hairy legs.

I know.

Of course, I’m not authorized to make declarations on behalf of Feminism,

so I’m not sure how much that’s worth.

I don’t want to climb the stairs to nowhere

Have a conversation with a fiscal conservative about universal healthcare

Sit on a stalled city bus without a book

Fold fitted sheets.

(That’s about it.)

    I can relate to this.
Btw, your found poetry is so hilariously clever it made my day.
